One day tour of Phuket

If you come to visit me in Phuket there will be one mandatory day of visit. During this visit I will drive you around the highlights of the south of the island. Of course, if we went out the night before and you cannot wake up too early we will have to shorten it, but you will miss something.

First stop will be the Kata viewpoint, it’s on the hill above Kata, along the coastline, and provide a stunning view over Kata and Karon (Karon beach is the longest beach in the island). That’s the picture you can see at the top of this post.

Then we will go to the Big Buddha, it’s a huge Buddha statue sitting on the top of one of the highest hill of Phuket and overseeing the Chalong Bay and the south of the island. This place is still under construction and locals and tourists make donations so the work can continue. Each time I go there, there is something new.

Third stop will be at Wat Chalong. This the most beautiful temple on the island. It has a very nice garden and the chedi contains holy relics visible to the visitors.

After Wat Chalong we will head to Cape Panwa. Cape Panwa is the cape at the tip of the peninsula which forms the northern limit of the Chalong Bay. It’s a very beautiful and quiet area which is still not very developed (but it seems to be more and more hotels built there)

Last but not least, if we left early enough and haven’t been too lazy on the way we will end up at Phromthep Cape. This place is the southern tip of the island. There is a buddhist altar and a small marine museum that you can visit before night. But most notably, Phromthep Cape is known for being the best place on Phuket to enjoy a stunning sunset and so, every days, buses full of tourists and locals and sometime whole classes come there to enjoy the show.
